Almost always the device. A three-piece inflatable implant from one manufacturer is a different product from another, and it is usually the largest single line in the quote. A clinic advertising a low headline price is frequently quoting a different implant — not a discount on the same one.
After that: how many nights of hospital and hotel are covered, whether a translator is included, how long follow-up runs, and — the one that matters most and gets asked about least — what happens if the device needs revising. Revision surgery is not rare, and “not covered” is a materially different product from “covered for 24 months”.
How we produce these figures
- Every figure comes from an itemised quote we requested from a clinic for a real patient. None are advertised prices, and none are estimates.
- Only quotes actually sent to a patient are counted. Our own drafts are excluded — they are working copies, not prices anyone was offered.
- Totals include only what the clinic said was included. Excluded items are counted separately rather than folded into the total.
- Only euro quotes are aggregated. Mixing currencies into one median is arithmetic on incompatible units.
- We publish nothing for a procedure until we hold at least 12 quotes for it.
- Prices change. These reflect what was quoted, not what a clinic will honour today.
