Penile implant surgery in Türkiye: what to expect

A penile implant, or penile prosthesis, is a device placed inside the penis during a short operation to produce an erection firm enough for sex. It is one of the most reliable treatments for erectile dysfunction — but it is a considered, last-line step, not a first one. This guide explains how it works, who it suits, what it costs in Türkiye, and what recovery honestly involves.

What a penile implant is

The implant sits entirely inside the body. Once you have healed, no one can see it, and you control it yourself — it works on demand, the same way every time. That reliability is why it does not depend on blood flow, timing or planning the way tablets and injections do, and why satisfaction rates are among the highest of any procedure in urology.

Who it is for

An implant is usually offered when other treatments — tablets such as sildenafil, injections, or a vacuum device — have not worked or are not tolerated. It is also an option for men with Peyronie’s disease or after prostate surgery. It is not suitable during an active infection, and poorly controlled diabetes raises the risk of complications, so your surgeon will want your health optimised first.

What surgery and recovery involve

The operation takes about 45 to 90 minutes under general anaesthetic. The surgeon makes a small cut, usually where the penis meets the scrotum, and antibiotics are given to guard against infection — the main complication. Most men stay one or two nights in hospital. Swelling and bruising are normal for a week or two, and most men are cleared to resume sexual activity at around four to six weeks.
